mexico edition nike air force 1's

i don't think i've shown you these before
i love the colours on these old boxes.
in fact if ever the colours are available, it's my intention to make a pair of i.d's
using orange, khaki, white and grey. they'd look good don't you think ?

anyway, inside this box are a pair of deadstock mexico edition af-1's
the upper is constructed using white, green and red patent leather.

a nice touch is the mexico detail on the tongue tab
white patent leather tongue and green laces, though these also came with red laces.

another tidy detail is the aztec style pattern on the insoles
and the 1970 style footballs

on the green patent leather heel tabs, the nike air and swoosh are stitched in red
white heel strips complete the rear of the shoe

oh, a nice detail on the inside of the tongue tab
mexico and a swoosh. nice padded tongue by the way.

the tip and the foxing are finished in white patent leather. the mid section
uses green patent leather.
and the swoosh is in red patent leather.

i think these are the only af-1's i own where the line and the air on the midsoles are in different colours
white midsole, white outsole.

and a last shoe detail
quilted white sock liners. these are maybe the most padded af-1's in my crate.

oh and they came with this key-fob thing
premium

and a golden envelope containing some little stickers of the teams included in the
world cup af-1 collection
fair enough.

all in all these are a magic darts pair of air force 1's
bringing heat to the streets of n7

self-portrait in w1

i had a massive shoot in w1 the other day.
i was badly let down on the assisting front, so for the first time in ages
i didn't have time to do a self-portrait.

well, i thought i didn't, but when i looked through the edit, i found this
one frame.
shocking really, but i honestly didn't have a minute to do a proper self-portrait.

( did i mention i was let down by my assistant ? )

nike x tom sachs space program: mars

on friday i took a trip to 1948 and checked out the tom sachs space program: mars

after queuing up for a little while i was unexpectedly joined by a friend of mine,
somebody i don't have nickname for yet... somebody who's a designer of stuff
i really like, and who seems to be getting into the sneaker game in a big way.

we were at the back of the queue for a while and then an amazing thing happened.

a girl came out of 1948 and walked up and down the queue and plucked somebody from
the middle and told them to go in. i got her attention and asked what was happening.
she said "he's got to go back to work soon"
so i said "we've got to get back to work as well" and she replied
"right. you can go in too"

so me and my friend did the walk of shame as she escorted us past all the people
who were queueing ahead of us, past the security guard and into 1948.

( you should check out the tom sachs space program on google to see what it's all about.
there are videos and lots of photos, it's a really interesting project )

anyway, inside 1948, this was the display
just 5 pieces, but 5 really incredible pieces.

two coats, a pair of trainers and two bags
listing it like that the collection doesn't sound like much does it ?
but they are really little pieces of art.

as ever, it's all about the details.
some of the materials used are from old space-suits, also car air-bags and boat sails.
the mars yard shoes come with a customised box and a spare pair of leather insoles.

the material used on the upper is vectran, which is spun from lcp
( liquid crystal polymer ) and is 5x stronger than steel, although it is lightweight
and breathable.
the laces are from parachute cords.

the trenchcoat on the left is a very nice bit of kit
this is the lining by the way

the periodic table... excellent !
er...

decent labels too
all in all, there was lots to look at even though there were only 5 items on sale.

they only let 4 people in at a time and those who were in with me seemed to
spend a lot of time taking photos.
bloggers eh ?
what are they like ?

there was also a big video wall playing the tom sachs mission to mars film

and finally, those who bought something from the mission 2.0 mars collection were
asked to sign up as astronauts on the tom sachs space program
i was the 10th astronaut to sign up !

if you get a chance, it's well worth taking a trip to 1948 and checking out the tom sachs
display and having a close look at the pieces he's designed.

bloggers

i told you the customers at 1948 were taking a lot of photos when i was there.

have a look at what ii just found on the crooked tongues site

giving it the old 'bad cop, bad cop' routine, me and the boss of agent 'y'
having a good look at the tom sachs space program display.

another w4 self-portrait

here's another shot of myself and agent 'y' in w4 last week
using sherlock holmes style powers of deduction you can see that when i bend down to take a shot
i rest my right knee on the floor.

i'm also obviously right handed as i touch the things in the workshop with my right hand
then wipe it on my shirt on the right side afterwards

you might also be able to deduce that i'm quite miserable.

agent 'a' and agent 'y'

during the shoot in w4 last week, myself and agent 'y' were joined
after a couple of hours by agent 'a'

being a gentleman, i let agent 'a' take my seat and took a quick photo.
i love how the two chairs are the same, but one has the extra bit on top
making it into more of a throne almost.

i also like that both agents are smiling.
however, their smiles were wiped away a few minutes later, when 'label-gate'
reared it's ugly head.

fun and games in w4
