francesinhas

i mentioned the francesinha previously...
but when i went back to porto a couple of weeks ago, i thought it only fair to
try another example of the speciality of the city.

somebody had been doing some research on my behalf...
outstanding ! time out porto had done an issue dedicated to finding
the finest francesinhas in the city.

it had pages and pages of reviews

interesting...
see the one on the right ? santiago...

well it was rated as having the best francesinhas in the city
well that was that... off to santiago

sure enough santiago were proud of their award, and had it on show in the window.
alongside a 2007 recommendation

the meninha pointed out some subtle differences in the available francesinhas
and i decided that the santaigo special was the one for me.

not the best picture, but i was almost shaking by this stage... i was so excited.
so it's a sandwich, with a filling consisting of steak, sausage, ham and pork
topped with cheese and sitting in a bowl of spicy beer gravy.
the special has a fried egg on top and comes with chips.

3 minutes later...
job done.

obrigado oporto !

  1. Not too sure that egg looks completely done to me. Still, this sounds like a speciality you just have to try. Off to the kitchen I go for some experimenting...
