burgh island and the pilchard inn

last weekend i had a pint of cider in what i think is the best pub
i've ever been in... the pilchard inn.
it dates from 1336 and is to be found on burgh island in devon.

here's a view from burgh island back out towards mainland
when it's high tide the island is completely cut off but at other times you can walk
to it along the beach.
the hotel on the island is a cracking place to stay. it reminds me of the sort of
establishment that bertie wooster would have frequented. staying there is like
stepping back in time to a golden age and the rooms, service and food are top notch.

so... if you fancy a great weekend away.

and make sure you spend a bit of time in the residents / locals only bar
at the pilchard inn... staring out to sea, sitting by the fire.
perfect !
