xmas at whitfield towers

ok, still no decorations apart from the bearbricks, but at least we
have a few xmas cards arranged as a token nod towards the festive season.

and a few presents have appeared...

no tree at whitfield towers, but i did buy a pack of 10 kitchen sponges
from the corner shop this morning...
happy xmas one and all !

my favourite xmas card

i received a cracking xmas card the other day.

it made me smile ( almost ) as it is pretty much the same design that
i was thinking about doing on next year's whitfield xmas cards.

here it is...

it has taken my 2010 xmas cards to the next level.
nice one ginny

happy xmas to you and the bass player !

nike air force 1 bespokes

i was going to keep these on the d-low but seeing as i'm trying to
reach the 1000 posts in a year mark, i've resorted to blogging any old nonsense
during the past couple of weeks...

what do you mean you haven't noticed the difference ?

er, anyway... remember my appointment at 21 mercer in new york
when i went to get a pair of bespokes made up ?

well a couple of days ago, i received a rendering of the shoe i designed...

the tip, the toe box, the mid section, the foxing and the eye stay are all constructed
using a dark blue / grey waterproof wool material.

the swoosh, the heel tab and the tongue tab are all in brown crocodile leather.
neither the heel or tongue tab have the nike air or swoosh on them. they have been
left blank, so you just see the croc material.

the lining and insole are in butter soft brown perforated leather, as is the tongue.
it sits on a gum mid-sole and an ice out-sole.

since this rendering was done i have added metal eyelets which are the same
colour as the wool, except that the top eyelets on each shoe will be the same
colour as the laces ( which are the same colour as the gum mid-sole )

i also opted to have some cross stitching on the shoe to break up the sections.

as the mayor said to me at the time... "these shoes are a problem"

i'm hoping these will be with me in time for my birthday ( 13th january )
and i very much look forward to spilling beer and curry sauce all over them !

hmmm...

on my coffee table ( xmas edition )

looking slightly festive this week...
... slightly

book
to be read by candlelight. a collection of ghost stories.
( ghost stories are associated with christmas, right ? )

dvd: it's a wonderful life
predictable, but then again, so is turkey.
you have to watch this film on christmas eve don't you ?
the edition here is the original film, plus a colour version too.

no cd this time, but a tune i've been playing all week on my iphone
christmas in harlem by kanye west and friends.
it's available as a free download from
six and a half minutes long, it's free and it's got a catchy hook.
nice one mr west.

portraits in the snow

i did a shoot on friday. some portraits of a businessman for the
financial section of a national newspaper.
he insisted we take all the portraits outside, even though
it had been snowing overnight, there was ice on the ground, it was
freezing cold and i was gloveless. brrr !

here's one of the second set i did
by this stage i started shooting with my lumix g1 using autofocus.
i did the first set with my leica m9 but after a little while my fingers
became so numb that i couldn't focus... yes it was that cold.
by the way i'm using a quantum flash here with a warm gel over
the front to try and warm up the shot.

the subject was quite a good model and like me he owned a couple of poses.

but he was caught off guard when a builder walked past us and made
a cheeky remark to him... which i think made for a good shot.
my light warms these shots up nicely but trust me it was absolutely
brass monkeys on this shoot. i also learned a lesson and will never
go out on a winter shoot again without taking some turtles.

stüssy iphone app

i bought a stüssy app for my iphone yesterday
it's not great, but it's quite interesting. if you have a lot of photos
on your iphone i reckon it's worth buying.

it lets you put your photos into a few different stüssy frames

or you can use the stüssy typeface in speech bubbles over your photos
you can change the colour and size of the typeface too.

this is my favourite effort so far...
woah... remember summertime ?
