on my coffee table this week

more recommendations from my beautiful coffee table
japan, brasil and an englishman in france.

book: put me back on my bike by william fotheringham
the story of tom simpson, the legendary cyclist. even if you're not a fan of cycling
this is a corking book.

cd: bossa nova
a 2 cd box set of bossa nova and the rise of brasilian music in the 1960's
it also comes with a cracking little book. great stuff.
why not bring a little sunshine into your january and chuck £11 at this ?

dvd: instant swamp
two of the best films i watched last year were japanese...
'fish story' and 'turtles are surprisingly fast swimmers'
this is by the director of the latter and is in a similar vein.
it's funny, it's quirky, it's very japanese... then again it's a little bit like amelie
and a little bit like almodovar films too.
you can usually pick this up for less than a fiver, but as ever i would have to say
if you've got more than a fiver to spend, go and buy 'fish story'

ok... time for a coffee.

funny or not ?

well what did they expect when they hired ricky gervais ?

my favourite part was seeing robert de niro laughing...
oh and perhaps seeing how nervous steve buscemi looked,
dreading ricky gervais making a joke about him.

nice one ricky.

levis x stüssy

some new denim turned up at whitfield towers yesterday.
an ebay find. a pair of 505 levis made in collaboration with stüssy

stüssy is stamped onto the back tag
obviously i'll be swimming in a 32 waist, but it was the only size left

more nice details on the front pocket
note how i cropped the word 'paris' out of this shot

the stüssy double 's' logo is also stitched above one of the back pockets
so now all i need is a new pair of trainers to go with these jeans...

what ?

good morning

this morning i paid my first visit of the year to look mum no hands...

great way to start the day too. with a free coffee.
sadly enough, the cycle stamps look like an animated version of a cyclist i saw as i was
driving along farringdon road last wednesday. a bloke on one of those barclays bikes went flying off right in front of me and i just managed to stop about a metre away from him.

anyway... here's my free flat white at l.m.n.h.
i could tell that today was going to be a good day.

bad morning

maybe there's no such thing as a free coffee ?
when i got back to my jam jar after the free flat white at l.m.n.h
i noticed that one of my tyres had a puncture.

luckily enough it was quite a slow puncture and i managed to get from ec1 to n7
where the local kwik-fit had a look at it for me.
while the bloke took the tyre away to try and find the puncture, i hung around
and got in everybody's way by taking photos.
this is the bit of my car after the wheel and tyre bits were taken off.

the kwik-fit bloke pumped my tyre up and showed me how to find the puncture.
hmmm, it frothed up like bottled bass !
ten minutes later i was back at whitfield towers having spent nothing on a coffee
and £100 on a new tyre.
grrr !

mo coppoletta

a week or so ago i mentioned my next door neighbour, ben lewis.
today i thought i'd introduce you to my other neighbour, mo coppoletta.

mo, like ben is one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet.

do you know what mo does for a living ?

let me show you... this is my back after mo worked on it for seven and a half hours.

here's another shot a year later when i was featured in men's health magazine ( it's true )

i just found out that there is a book about mo
if you're thinking about getting a tattoo. mo is the man.

monday morning coffee sulk

on monday morning i had a shoot which meant me leaving whitfield towers at 6.30am.

the restaurant was supposed to be ready for me to shoot at 7am but when i
arrived the place was in a right old two and eight.
not for the first time i had to set the place up by myself... 55 heavy wooden chairs
to take off the tables and place in position ( yes i counted them )

while i was setting up the chairs and putting out the salt, pepper and sugar dispensers
i spotted a decent looking coffee machine... hmmmm...

i took out my m9 and set up a self-portrait before i took my first shot
of the restaurant.
i wanted to see how i looked when it was early morning and i was jonesing for a coffee.
the answer was... moody even by my standards.

happily enough i was offered a coffee about a minute after this.

so all in all, not a bad start to the week.
