sunday iphone pics

sunday was a dull day. dull and rainy.
so dull, dark and rainy that i didn't take a camera out with me.

i did however have apple's second biggest practical joke... the iphone's
built-in camera. it's so poor that i generally use the hipstamatic app
which turns the iphone pics into polaroid style images. at least this way
the lack of quality seems to have a bit of style about it.

while waiting for the lift at whitfield towers, i knocked off a quick self-portrait.

perfect !

i saw an interesting sign in the window of coexistence...
hmmm...

feeling a little hank marvin i figured it was time for masala zone.
on the beverage front i opted for a stawberry lassi
which really hit the spot

food-wise i ordered up a chicken biryani
which was fine after i got rid of all the green bits.

masala zone i salute you.
your food is magic darts, you always have a nice booth for me and your staff
are always very polite... yes masala zone, i like you very much.

on saturday

on saturday i decided to step out in my black air yeezys
perfect for strolling along the holloway road

at the tube station while waiting for the train i spotted a mirror...
i wasn't going to let that opportunity pass me by.
ok so it's a bit shaky but you get the impression.
black air yeezys, evisu jeans, black bape long sleeve top, adidas / crooked tongues
jacket, supreme bag and bose headphones. standard.

i got out at piccadilly circus to pay my first visit of 2011 to the nordic bakery.

a few doors away from the nordic is a cracking little music shop.
i had a look in the window to see if the spongebob squarepants drum kit that i wanted
was still there... it wasn't.
nice ukeleles though, seeing as they only have four strings, does that make them easier to play ? does the dreaded 'f' chord fail to exist in the world of ukelele playing i wonder ?

hmmm... what about the penny whistle that comes with an instructional dvd ?

i also liked the look of that keyboardy kind of thing at the top left.
it had a tube and a mouthpiece coming out of it... genius !

no. i won't bother buying another musical instrument. i'll just stick to my
acoustic guitar... or rather i'll stick to looking at my acoustic guitar.

wandering towards the heart of soho i spotted a load of these posters in
a record shop window
i think i am just the sort of person they were looking for. i stopped to admire the posters.
i took a quick photo, the went into the shop, asked if there was a record to go with
the poster as i liked the design of it very much. the girl asked if i'd like to hear it but
i didn't need to. if the poster was that good, the music would be great, right ?

funnily enough they were selling the posters and there was a corking
coffee table book which had loads of photos of album covers. you could also buy
a t-shirt with the poster design on it, and a decent looking sports bag too.

with the double cd of bossa nova in my bag i moved on.
i wondered about popping in to the newsagent to buy the latest issue of 'dapper dan'
but i didn't

after a quick skulk around seven dials i made my way to the dover street market.
what a touch ! free food and drink at dsm.
obviously the sandwiches were a bit too salad-like for my liking, but i helped myself
to a glass of apple juice and a couple of pieces of lemon poppy seed cake.

the cake was magic darts.
i like the way poppy seeds get stuck in your teeth for the rest of the day.
that's a nice look !

just around the corner in dover street, i spotted a space invader piece
excellent.

walking along bond street i saw loads of couples dressed in similar clothes.
some of them had checked shirts and gillets, some wore blazers, and look at this
couple sporting similar black padded coats...
i asked mrs w if she'd like to dress like me in future...

selfridges kind of got on my nerves yesterday. the only thing i liked about it was
when i noticed this massive shoe on the second floor...
can you see what it's made of ?

that's right, the whole thing is made from stainless steel pans
you should try and check it out. it's an amazing piece.

after breaking my personal best time for length of sulking, mrs w
thought it would be a good idea if we took a trip to wagamama.
this almost made me smile. wagamama can mean only one thing for me...
no. 71. no pickles, no leaves.

job done.

and that was all i photographed on saturday.

peep and weep wednesdays

i'm not much of a fan of twitter to be honest.
i do follow three people though, you know, the usual suspects...
steven fry, mayor and the other mark whitfield.

well, mayor has started a weekly thing on twitter where people send in a photo
of a pair of their kicks and it's called 'peep and weep wednesdays'
it's all good light hearted fun, not really bragging and showing off... well, ok
maybe it's a bit like that. you show some kicks and other people comment on them.

so on wednesday 12th ( the day before my birthday ! ) i joined in for the first time.

i posted this pic...
well... i was representing not only n7, but the whole of the uk

a couple of minutes later, a tweet appeared from new york city...
mayor had seen my pic. he posted just one word... 'nice'
a minute later i received another re-tweet about my kicks. this time it
was from a proper celeb... dj clark kent
( djck produced three tracks on jay-z's debut album 'reasonable doubt' and
is also namechecked on a couple of jay-z tracks )

i was so chuffed that i took a screen grab of my iphone...
on twitter i'm known as twixmeister because... well, it's a long story
involving a now defunct band, the cavern club in liverpool, the prodigy,
a hire van and of course a twix !

don't bother looking for me on twitter because i won't be tweeting,
but i will probably be joining in with peep and weep wednesdays for
a good while.

my birthday boxing day

for as long as i can remember, i've always called january 14th 'my birthday boxing day'
( did i mention 13th january was my birthday ? )

yes, i like to stretch my birthday celebrations out for as long as i can.

anyway, some serious heat arrived from japan yesterday.
in a plain nike box...

these are an unreleased hybrid version of the nike x fragment design tennis classic
the regular version was released in limited numbers to raise money for the sichuan earthquake.

unlike the limited edition versions, these feature a panda head cartoon on the heel tabs...
the released versions had a nike swoosh on the heel tabs after the panda head idea was rejected.

they also have chinese font on the tongue.

unlike the regular nike tennis classics, these prototypes sit on an air force 1 sole.

less than 5 pairs of these exist and they were never released to the public.
did you hear me ? less than 5 pairs of these exist !

these are fire
i won't lie to you, i tried these on, took a photo, then put them back in their box.

i'd like to thank mayor for fixing me up with these. salute.

an ideal husband

did i mention that thursday 13th january was my birthday ?

well, in the evening i was treated to an evening at the vaudeville theatre.
mrs w said that she always wanted to see what an ideal husband was like...
hmmm...

i've previously admitted to you that i'm partial to a bit of jane austen so i might as well
confess that i'm a big fan of oscar wilde too.

an ideal husband is one of my favourite plays. not only is it full of great quotable lines
but i also see a lot of myself in the character lord arthur goring
( the idlest man in london )

perhaps those of you who know me should check out the 1999 film version
and let me know if you agree ?

at the start of the second act, lord goring was getting changed
( he was rumoured to change his clothes 5 times a day )
he was standing in front of a full length mirror admiring himself while speaking
to his man...
" fashion is what one wears oneself. what is unfashionable is what other people wear.
other people are dreadful. the only possible society is oneself "

he then came out with my favourite line in the whole play and one which
is paraphrased in my favourite song of all time... my theme song if you like...

lord goring adjusted his buttonhole, looked at his reflection and smiled...
" to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance "

ok... second competition of the year...
a prize for whoever can guess what my theme song is, what the line in the song is
that has similar sentiments to lord goring, and who's recording of the song is in my
opinion, the definitive version.

should i work for free ?

as you know, i try to keep this blog as original as possible, but occasionally
i see something on a website that i feel i should share.

this made me smile ( almost )

you might want to click on the image to enlarge it.

fair play to jessica hische for coming up with this.

nike bearbrick af-1's ( stone editions )

more heat at whitfield towers...
the off white or stone editions of the bearbrick af-1

like the black version the whole upper is constructed from pony hair

the heel tab is in black pony hair and the nike air and swoosh are missing

the tongue tab is in black, again with no nike branding
but with the medicom / bearbrick logo in it's place

the sock liner and insole are in white glove leather

like the black versions, these shoes are a problem...
my af-1 game is really on the move this year. i'm 18 pairs strong.

hopefully my bespokes will be here soon and that will be 19.

boom !
