wedding weekend... mainly photos of what i ate.

a few non-wedding snapshots from thursday to monday...

in london last thursday just before we headed out to dorset, wiltshire or somerset, we stopped off in the west end for a coffee at the new moustache place.

this was the rubbish bin next to where i parked on golden square.
i wanted to take these flowers out of the bin and give them to the bride a couple of days later but jackie thought that was a bit cheap of me !

we stayed on thursday night at a belting village pub called the stapleton arms in buckhorn weston. it is well known for it's home-made pies and wide range of real ales...
so at about 5pm i got right on the job.
the pie was handsome.

unfortunately a couple of lads started mowing the pub lawn and that resulted in me declaring hay-fever season well and truly open. after much sneezing and a drive to a chemist to buy some tablets it was time to settle down in the pub for beer and food.

grrr ! the pub had no gas, so the menu was drastically reduced.

i opted for a kofte kebab, which the same jokers who cut the grass earlier, prepared for me on the barbeque.
it was ok but the bread was cold. surely they should have bunged it on the barbeque for a minute ? the haloumi cheese was a touch though.

seeing as it wasn't a lot of food, i thought i'd have a dessert...
what was i thinking ? this was a rhubarb crumble with cold custard. the wretched dish tasted intensely of ginger. it was mad. the rhubarb tasted only of ginger, the crumble tasted of ginger... it was all wrong and i couldn't eat it.

i worked my way through the beer list and went to bed still hungry.

next morning, still no gas but the chef had brought a little one ring electric effort into the kitchen. this was all he could fit into the pan...
bacon, scrambled egg and black pudding ( i made the toast myself )

the stapleton arms is a cracking pub and i know from past experience that the food there is amazing. i just happened to be there at a bad time for them, when the kitchen could not operate properly.

we took a little stroll around after breakfast...
nah... i don't like flowers !

i tried to annoy this little bee. but he wasn't bothered...
even when i sneezed.

we then travelled to longleat where our base for the next two nights was the bath arms.

this was the restaurant at the bath arms...

but it was a sunny warm evening ( friday ) so we ate outside in the garden
i amused myself by arranging wedding group shots with the condiments.

until my fish and chips turned up...
i love chips... but these chips... well they weren't as bad as triple-cooked chips but they were a bit of a liability.

saturday morning and just before leaving for the wedding i found time to tuck this away.
sausage, bacon, black pudding and two poached eggs.

sorted.
