hong kong snapshots ( remix )

i was in hong kong on a shoot in february this year ( or was it march ? )
here are some of my snapshots.

originally i posted them without any comments but a few people told
me that they preferred it when i write a few words about my photos,
so here goes...

this was taken at a walkway to the subway train. i love the old style posters.

this was the nearest subway station to my hotel. nice colour tiles.

on my first day in hong kong. i was hank marvin. i saw this person making these little pancake ball type things on the street and i just had to have some.

this is me about to dig in with my rubbish chopstick technique

around the corner from the street food place was this shop window. i thought it made
a good backdrop for a portrait, but nobody would pose for me.

i think i just took this because i love the signs... you know... the chinese writing.

this is one of my favourite logos of all time. it's a sushi place.

i liked the look of this camera very much, but i think the lumix gf1 is better.

octopus is the hong kong equivalent of our oystercard. it's kind of better though
because you can use it in shops too. this sign was on the floor at the ferry terminal.
one line for cash, one line for octopus card users.

this is the waiting area for the ferry. it had nice light.

hong kong. the old and the new.

one of the star ferries crew.

i must have looked like a right tourist but i kept photographing these duck joints.

this was the place where i ate most nights. each night i was the only european
person in there. grrr ! i can't remember what it was called.

i can't remember taking this to be honest !

nice illustrations on the buses.

this was when i went for a walk after doing one of my shoots. i just thought it looked
interesting.

adverts on the subway. nice that they put them next to each other.

the trains were sweet

the lad next to her eats a choc-ice.

  1. Hey, I love these. Sums it up better than I ever could. I could actually spend many more days here as it's fascinating and the people are lovely - it's just not cool with the kids. G.

  4. I think it's tripe. The mysterious foodstuff - not your travelogue. Loved it, esp the fish in bags.

  5. Shouldn't it be "Redux" rather than "Remix"? interesting question. Or maybe not....

  6. i just had a look on wikipedia and you may be correct.
something about the word redux sounds a bit 'poncey' though... pretentious perhaps ?

maybe i should go with roots manuva and call it a re-fit or a re-jiggle ?
