the blacksmiths arms

one of the main reasons for the trip to the lake district was to have a meal
in a pub i'd photographed a month or so ago.
the blacksmiths arms in broughton mills, broughton-in-furness, cumbria.

the owners, michael and sophie are the friendliest people you could hope to meet
and i thought it looked like a perfect place for a few drinks and a meal.

here's my published photo of the interior of one of the small dining rooms in the pub

the place has three small dining rooms, each with three tables.
oh, by the way, the magazine i photographed it for awarded it 9/10
the weekend before we visited.

michael was proudly telling everybody about the great review
when we arrived on friday evening. also it seemed like a lot of people had read
the magazine and wanted to talk to him about it.

we sat outside for a drink before we ate, and these people were
reading the review and they remarked a few times to each other about
how fantastic the photo was !
perhaps michael planted them there to make me feel good ?

after a while we moved inside for our meal

i had this belting starter: haddock on a bed of mushy peas,
with a poached egg on top, then some pancetta on top of the egg.

it was perfect.

oh i also had some cracking beer

if you're ever up in the lake district, you must visit.
